Dear Friend of parks and public lands,
We are excited to share a landmark moment in the stewardship of Bears Ears National Monument, a rich source of Indigenous cultural heritage and natural beauty. Spanning an expansive landscape in Southern Utah, this monument is not only a sanctuary for tens of thousands of sacred Indigenous sites, but also features some of the darkest night skies and wildest solitude in the country. Its unique geology of canyons and mesas connects culturally and ecologically significant areas stretching from Glen Canyon National Recreation Area to Canyonlands National Park.
Historic Collaboration In a groundbreaking move, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S. Forest Service (USFS), in partnership with five Tribal Bears Ears Commissioners, crafted a new draft management plan for Bears Ears. This initiative marks a significant advancement in collaborative land management, integrating Indigenous knowledge and tribal input into the governance of the monument, a vision originally outlined in the proclamations that both established and later restored Bears Ears.
