Dear Friend of parks and public lands, Bears Ears National Monument is home to tens of thousands of sacred Indigenous cultural sites, some of the darkest night skies in the country and expansive canyons and mesas at the heart of a culturally and ecologically connected landscape stretching across Southern Utah from Bryce Canyon to Canyonlands National Parks.
And Bears Ears is making history again. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and US Forest Service (USFS) released a new draft management plan created in collaboration with five Native American Tribes. Under the proposed plan, the lands and resources of the monument will be managed in collaboration with Tribes, utilizing Indigenous knowledge and Tribal input as was intended in both the proclamations that established and restored the monument.
Now, the BLM, USFS and the five Tribes are seeking public input on the Draft Resource Management Plan and hosting both virtual and in-person meetings about the plan.
This is a chance for people like you, who care about protecting important cultural spaces and wild, natural places, to engage in-person with BLM, USFS and Tribal leaders to learn more about the draft plan and how you can provide input.
Currently planned meetings: In-person open houses (no RSVP required): During the open houses, the agencies will provide a brief presentation twice (once at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.).
