Join us on May 27 for a virtual Park Talk to learn how to plan your best national park visit yet. You’ll hear from NPCA staff about how changes to reservation systems and increased visitation might impact your visit and learn tips to help you plan in advance to ensure you have an enjoyable and memorable visit. Attendees will learn about the kinds of activities you can participate in when you arrive – from scenic hikes to fly fishing – along with practical advice with how to explore responsibly whether you’re adventuring in the deserts of the southwest or the forests of the southeast. And finally, we'll share how you can use your voice to ensure that parks are protected and that parks have the staff and resources they need to thrive.

Jeff Hunter, Southern Appalachian Director

Jeff Hunter is the Southern Appalachian Director with National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) in Asheville, NC where he works on issues related to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

He spends much of his time working collaboratively on wildlife connectivity projects on Interstates 40 and 26 in North Carolina and Tennessee, conducting avian research in the Pisgah National Forest adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and providing leadership for the Appalachian Trail Landscape Partnership (ATLP). 

Jeff holds a BA in environmental studies from State University of New York Empire State College. He and his wife Caara live in Burnsville, NC at the base of the Black Mountains.

Cassidy Jones, Senior Visitation Program Manager

Born and raised in Utah, Cassidy comes to NPCA with an inborn interest in parks, public lands, and political-cultural conflict.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Westminster College (UT) where she researched literary perspectives on Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and she holds a Master of Science in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism from the University of Utah where she studied National Park Service urban engagement in urban-proximate parks. Cassidy draws on experiences with NPS as a graduate research assistant working on urban youth engagement strategies in Salt Lake City, as an interpretive ranger managing youth and night skies programs at Timpanogos Cave National Monument (UT), and as an intern in visitor services and education at John F. Kennedy National Historic Site (MA). Cassidy loves slickrock, snow, and sleeping under dark skies.
