Where: Port Angeles, WA; exact meetup address provided when you RSVP

What: A day celebrating and connecting with LGBTQ+ park lovers

On June 8 and 9, join NPCA and Michelle Barboza of @latinxnaturalist for Pride in Our Parks day trips! We’re heading to the diverse and lush landscape within Olympic National Park. We’ll spend the day exploring the park’s dynamic ecosystems, all while celebrating our LGBTQ+ community. Michelle will even share tips for capturing stellar park photos and teach us about queerness in nature.

With our partner, Underwood, we’re inviting the LBGTQ+ community on free day trips in three different national parks, led by NPCA staff and featuring some of your favorite outdoor influencers. Each day will be a unique experience with a different audience in mind, all to ensure parks are spaces for all to experience and enjoy. We ask that you join just one day to maximize the number of community members who get to partake in these experiences.

These events are completely free! NPCA will provide lunch, transportation around the park. We'll cover the cost of your park entry – plus a Pride in our Parks shirt for you!

Since 2014, Underwood has protected natural resources by producing wine in infinitely recyclable aluminum cans. In support of NPCA’s mission to ensure all our welcome in our parks, Underwood is donating $25,000 to NPCA.

Our Host: Michelle

Michelle

Michelle is a queer latinx naturalist and geoscience educator born and raised in Los Angeles county. In their work life, they teach people about rocks and fossils and plants and stuff… and in their off time they totally do that too (oops!). Michelle’s past projects include working in the education departments of the National Park Service and Natural History Museum of Los Angeles to expand community connections with urban nature and advocate for outdoor equity in LA. Currently, Michelle splits their time between working in higher ed and filming videos with PBS Eons. In their infinite free time, Michelle can be found hiking and birding their way through our public lands.
