Dear President Biden,
At this critical moment for Alaska’s national parks and wildlife, please listen to the will of the people and say no to the Ambler mining road.
The Ambler industrial mining road would slice through the Gates of the Arctic National Preserve and threaten the survival of the Western Arctic Caribou Herd. The caribou herd is one of North America’s largest and undertakes the longest land migration of any creature on Earth each year through Alaska’s roadless and intact lands and waterways. More than 87% of Americans support protections for Arctic caribou from mining development.
Over 20 million acres of national parklands would be negatively impacted by this private mining road. Just as significantly, 66 Alaska Native Tribes would be permanently affected, risking the lives of vulnerable community members, community food security, and cultural continuity for future generations.
The BLM received more than 135,000 comments in opposition to the road during its recent public comment period, and 82% of public testimony delivered at public meetings in Alaska called for your administration to revoke the road permits.
This is a road to speculation that would only cause ruin for the parklands and people of Northwest Alaska. Please revoke the Ambler industrial mining road permits.
