Connect with LGBTQ+ park lovers and explore Channel Islands National Park with NPCA!
When: Saturday, June 10, 7:00 am – 6:00 pm PDT
Where: Channel Islands National Park; exact meetup address provided when you RSVP
What: A day celebrating and connecting with LGBTQ+ park lovers
This June marks our third annual #PrideInOurParks campaign, celebrating stories from the LGBTQ+ community in our national parks – but this year, we’re taking you to the parks.
On June 10, join NPCA and Michelle Barboza of @latinxnaturalist for a Pride in Our Parks day trip! We’re heading to one of Michelle’s favorite national parks: Channel Islands. We’ll spend the day hiking Santa Cruz Island, spotting wildlife (like the Channel Island fox!), and kayaking through sea caves and kelp forests on a guided tour. And of course, celebrating our LGBTQ+ community. Michelle will share tips for capturing stellar park photos and teach us about queerness in nature.
This is a free event! Entry to the park is free, and NPCA will provide lunch and cover the cost of the ferry and kayak tour– plus a Pride in our Parks shirt for you!
NPCA's work centers around ensuring everyone feels welcome and included in our national parks. We're proud to support the LGBTQ+ community all year, uplifting the voices and visions of queer creators, and continually working to protect queer history with national park sites like Stonewall National Monument. Sharing your #PrideInOurParks stories helps us remind everyone that parks are for everyone.
Can’t make it to Channel Islands but still want to celebrate Pride with NPCA? Share your #PrideInOurParks story on Instagram by tagging @NPCApics and submitting your story to MyParkStory.
Please note: All participants will be required to sign NPCA's standard liability waiver and photo release. NPCA recommends all participants be up to date on their Covid-19 vaccine per current Centers for Disease Control recommendations and guidance. Trip requirements are subject to change. All NPCA Staff-led experiences will be defined by the NPCA staff member. Each participant is responsible for determining their preferred activity level, accessibility, needs and interests. This event includes moderate hiking, beginner sea kayaking, and transportation via ferry. NPCA will work with participants to select activities that meet all participants preferred activity and comfort level.
