Connect with LGBTQ+ park lovers and explore Shenandoah National Park with NPCA!

When: Saturday, June 24, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm EDT

Where: Shenandoah National Park; exact meetup address provided when you RSVP

What: A day celebrating and connecting with LGBTQ+ park lovers

This June marks our third annual #PrideInOurParks campaign, celebrating stories from the LGBTQ+ community in our national parks – but this year, we’re taking you to the parks.

On June 24, join NPCA and Katie and Mick Duffy of @mickandkatie for a Pride in Our Parks day trip! We’re heading to one of our favorite national parks: Shenandoah. We’ll spend the day hiking, learning about the human and natural history of the park, and celebrating our LGBTQ+ community. Mick and Katie will even share tips for capturing stellar park photos and sharing your #PrideInOurParks story.

This is a free event! NPCA will provide lunch– plus a Pride in our Parks shirt for you! We will have a shuttle available with pickups in DC and East Falls Church. If you choose to take the shuttle, your park entry fee will be covered by NPCA. If you choose to take your own vehicle, please bring your park pass or be prepared to pay Shenandoah’s day fee ($30).

NPCA's work centers around ensuring everyone feels welcome and included in our national parks. We're proud to support the LGBTQ+ community all year, uplifting the voices and visions of queer creators, and continually working to protect queer history with national park sites like Stonewall National Monument. Sharing your #PrideInOurParks stories helps us remind everyone that parks are for everyone.

Can’t make it to Shenandoah but still want to celebrate Pride with NPCA? Share your #PrideInOurParks story on Instagram by tagging @NPCApics and submitting your story to MyParkStory.

Please note: All participants will be required to sign NPCA's standard liability waiver and photo release. NPCA recommends all participants be up to date on their Covid-19 vaccine per current Centers for Disease Control recommendations and guidanceTrip requirements are subject to change. All NPCA Staff-led experiences will be defined by the NPCA staff member. Each participant is responsible for determining their preferred activity level, accessibility, needs and interests. This event includes moderate hiking at moderate altitudes. NPCA will work with participants to select activities that meet all participants preferred activity and comfort level.

More about Mick

Mick

McKayla (Mick) Duffy is a pediatric registered nurse from Delaware who is passionate about inclusivity and helping others. She was involved in a service fraternity at the University of Delaware and participated in service trips to help with underrepresented communities in rural areas of the country. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she believes there shouldn’t be a fear to be yourself while enjoying the outdoors and it should be welcoming for all people.

More about Katie

Katie

Katie Duffy was born and raised in Delaware. She has always been motivated to support and advocate for those who don’t always have a voice, which is what inspired her to become a neonatal ICU nurse. LGBTQ+ pride to her isn’t just a month’s long celebration, it’s something that should be openly celebrated every day. She is hopeful that with time and understanding, we will learn to honor our individuality and being outdoors will feel more inclusive.
