Our national parks protect the history and stories of all Americans. Join us on October 11th for a special program, The American Revolution to Stonewall to Today. The program will focus on a transformative figure in the Revolutionary War, General Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, who was a general in the Continental Army with a prolific career. During the event, NPCA contributor and LGBTQ+ historian Mark Segal will share his research on General von Steuben’s life and his connection to LGBTQ+ history. We will also have a panel discussion that will bring light to the stories that are told less often.
Event attendees will board a trolley that will take them from Valley Forge Visitor Center to significant locations throughout the park where they will learn more about the history at Valley Forge. After the trolley tour, attendees will visit General von Steuben’s statue in the park, then join us for a catered lunch to learn more about how our parks protect the stories of LGBTQ+ individuals – like those preserved as part of Stonewall National Monument – as well as the civil rights stories of enslaved peoples and women. Spots for this special event are limited, and RSVPs are required. RSVP’s will be confirmed and exact details will be provided a week before the event -- please RSVP by October 8.
The event will take place from 8:45 AM ET until 1:30 PM ET on October 11; exact details including parking information will be provided upon RSVP.
